Service Life of Gas Meters and Connecting Hoses

I. Service Life of Gas Meters

Article 7.5 of the "Verification Regulations for Diaphragm Gas Meters (JJG577-12)" stipulates, "Verification Cycle," that gas meters with a maximum flow rate qmax ≤ 10 m³/h and used for trade settlements shall undergo only the initial mandatory verification, be used within a limited period, and be replaced upon expiration. Gas meters using natural gas generally have a service life of no more than 10 years and must be replaced upon expiration.

II. Dangers of Expired Gas Meters

1. Aging of internal components: Long-term use can lead to failure of seals and metering membranes, wear of mechanical components, and compromise of the device's sealing and functionality.

2. External corrosion damage: Water and oil stains in the kitchen environment can corrode the meter body, causing rust and corrosion of the metal sheet and damaging the device structure.

3. Gas leaks: These issues can easily lead to gas leaks, which can cause explosions or fires in the presence of open flames or sparks, posing a safety hazard.

4. Operational malfunctions: Aging and deformation of interfaces and internal components can easily cause the meter to freeze, produce inaccurate measurements, or even stop working, impacting normal gas use.

5. Safety protection failure: The safety shut-off valve may close unexpectedly or fail to close when the equipment is in danger, losing its emergency protection capabilities and increasing risks.

III. Service Life of Gas Appliance Connection Hoses

Article 6.1.7 of GB55009-2021, "Gas Engineering Project Specifications," stipulates that when a hose is used to connect household pipes to gas appliances, a dedicated appliance connection hose must be used. The hose's service life should not be less than the appliance's scrap age. The scrap age for gas appliances is eight years, meaning the service life of the connecting hose must be at least eight years.

IV. Hazards of Expired Gas Appliance Connecting Hoses

Expired gas appliance connecting hoses can become aged, damaged, or deformed, potentially causing loose connections and gas leaks. Exposure to open flames or static electricity can create fire or explosion hazards.

The use of rubber hoses is strictly prohibited. Rubber hoses have a short service life, typically 18 months. Rubber hoses are less than the scrap age of gas appliances and are prone to breakage, aging, and detachment, as well as being easily chewed by rats.
