Key Points for Selecting an Electricity Meter

1. Determine the meter's power supply method and electricity usage.

Single-phase meters are suitable for single-phase power supply scenarios, such as homes and small businesses; three-phase meters are used in three-phase power supply scenarios, such as factories and large commercial buildings. The selection should be based on actual power needs.

2. Determine the meter's rated voltage.

Home electricity typically runs at 220V, while industrial electricity may run at 380V or higher. The meter's rated voltage must match the power supply voltage; otherwise, it may result in inaccurate measurement or damage the equipment.

3. Choose the meter's rated current appropriately.

Calculate the required current based on the total power consumption of the equipment. The formula is: I = P ÷ U (where I is current, P is power, and U is voltage).

When selecting an electricity meter, its rated current should be slightly higher than the actual current used. It is generally recommended to leave a 20%-50% margin to ensure safe operation. For example, if the total power of a household is 8000W, the voltage is 220V, and the calculated current is about 36A, a 10(40)A or 15(60)A meter can be selected.

IV. Consider the accuracy level of the meter

The smaller the accuracy level number, the more accurate the measurement. Household users generally choose a 1.0-level meter to meet their needs; industrial or places with high measurement accuracy requirements can choose a 0.5S-level or higher accuracy meter.

V. Functional requirements of the meter

Time-of-use billing areas need to choose a meter that supports peak and valley electricity prices; if remote meter reading, energy consumption monitoring and other functions are required, smart meters can be selected.

VI. Access method

Direct access meters are suitable for scenarios with low current (generally not exceeding 80A); places with large current (such as factories and large commercial buildings) usually need to be connected through current transformers to expand the measurement range.
