II. Differences Between Single-Phase and Three-Phase Meters
1. Structural Principles
(1) Single-Phase Meter: Internally, a single-phase meter primarily consists of current coils, voltage coils, an aluminum disk, and a counter. The current coils and voltage coils are connected to the circuit's live wire and neutral wire, respectively, measuring energy consumption through electromagnetic induction.
(2) Three-Phase Meter: The internal structure of a three-phase meter is more complex, typically employing a three-element or four-element measurement method. A three-element three-phase meter contains three current coils and three voltage coils, connected to the three phase lines of a three-phase circuit. A four-element three-phase meter adds a neutral line voltage coil to this configuration.
2. Measurement Range
(1) Single-Phase Meter: Single-phase meters have a relatively narrow measurement range, typically used to measure energy consumption at 220V.
(2) Three-Phase Meter: Three-phase meters offer a broader measurement range, capable of measuring energy consumption in three-phase three-wire or three-phase four-wire circuits. They are suitable for various voltage levels such as 380V and 660V.
3. Accuracy
(1) Single-phase meters: Typically achieve Class 1 measurement accuracy, sufficient for general user metering needs.
(2) Three-phase meters: Pursue higher precision standards, commonly reaching Class 0.5. This high accuracy is critical for industrial and commercial users, effectively preventing economic losses caused by metering errors.
